About this course

Wondering how you can help your students to get the most of the technology in your classroom? The Technology Integration Matrix or TIM was created to provide a resource for evaluating technology integration in the K-12 classroom as well as to provide a tool for helping to target teacher-related professional development. This course will provide an overview of the Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) and practice using the tool for instructional planning. The course content is divided into four modeules: TIM Overview, TIM in the Classroom, Recognizing and Integrating Technology in your Lessons, and Putting it all Together. In this course, teachers will learn how to apply the TIM on a day-to-day basis in their classrooms to support effective technology integration

 

What will I learn in this course?

Module 1: TIM in the Classroom 

As schools continue to expand the use of technology in the classroom, it is imperative to learn how to leverage these tools in an effective way to enhance student learning. In this module, you will learn more about the TIM and how this framework can assist teachers to integrate technology tools and develop 21st-century skills by reflecting on current practices and assessing the current technology tools available for use in the classroom.

Module 2: Leveraging your Resources

There are so many opportunities to integrate technology into our classrooms in today’s world, it is necessary to explore and evaluate these tools. In this module, you will examine a variety of technology tools and determine whether these tools are appropriate for classroom use by assessing the tools affordances and limitations in regards to classroom instruction. This content provides an overview of the types of technology used in the classroom along with an examination of whether or not these tools will enhance student achievement.

Week 3: Recognizing and Integrating Technology in your Lessons

Now that you have assessed the technology tools available for instruction, this module focuses on ways to integrate technology into classroom instruction. In this module, you will examine the various learning styles and discuss how the use of a variety of technology tools can assist you in meeting the needs of all learners while developing 21st-century skills. This module concludes with an exercise on how to integrate technology into an already-created lesson.

Week 4: Putting It All Together

Now that you have a better grasp of the TIM and the types of technology at your disposal, it is time to apply your new understanding and revisit your lesson plan. In this final module, you will discuss various web 2.0 tools before completing a culminating activity in which you will select a lesson plan and integrate technology in such a way that enhances student performance. By the end of this module, you should feel comfortable utilizing the TIM to evaluate technology use and enhance classroom instruction.
